Didn’t Save
Yourself
Written by Lydell Washington (03/01/00)
(“Didn’t Save
Yourself” is written from the perspective of a follower of Christ who is
witnessing the crucifixion of Christ, wondering why the Son of God who brought
dead men to life would not bring himself down from the cross. In contrast to
those who mocked Jesus with this type of questioning, this is intended to be
the more sincere questioning of one seeking to fully understand that which can
never truly be understood by man.)
You came into my life, when I was on the edge of dying
Yes, I needed a friend, a friend to end all my crying
I didn’t know it then, that You would turn my world around
Closer than a brother, the truest friend that I have found
You opened the eyes, of those who died
Creator of all living things, You breath new life
It still puzzles me, and maybe one day You will tell
Why You took time to save me, but You didn’t save Yourself
Master of care and kindness, leading our kids each day
Shows Your love for creation, and desire to chart the way
Whether in the U.S., or somewhere deep in Japan
If only more were like You, we’d all have a chance to stand
Lord You are, the Lamb of God
Most gracious King of kings, Lord of Lords
It still puzzles me, and maybe one day You will tell
Why You took time to save me, but You didn’t save Yourself
I pray to God, thanking him for the angels
That watch over us as they do, Gabriel
Appeared to Zechariahs, Michael fighting with Satan
And for my life there is You… woah, woah
Broken and tired, Your eyes are losing their spark
Daylight is fading away, and soon it will be dark
Someday we’ll meet in Heaven, and dance at the Father’s throne
Until then we’ll keep on running, forever won’t be too long
Chorus 3
You paid the price, You gave Your life
Upon the cross at Calvary, You sacrificed
It still puzzles me, and maybe one day You will tell
Why You took time to save me, but You didn’t save Yourself
It still puzzles me, and maybe one day You will tell
Why You took time to save me, but You didn’t save Yourself
